Occupant
Kinematics

The crash didn’t end at impact. Learn how to read what happened inside the car.

You’ve been in that situation before. The other occupants blame the dead guy. In these cases, you must rely on evidence gathered from multiple areas including medical records, injury investigation, physical evidence of occupant contact in the interior, interview techniques, and more.

What you'll learn

How to Read Medical Records Like an Investigator

Learn to interpret human anatomy and trauma reports with a crash investigation mindset — turning medical data into evidence.

Understanding Occupant Movement in Real-World Crashes

Deep dive into the biomechanics of how occupants move during different types of collisions — and how those movements leave behind clues.

Seatbelt Systems & Restraint Evidence Analysis

Master the art of analyzing seatbelt usage and restraint systems to uncover occupant positions and usage at the moment of impact.

Crash Scene Interviews & Interior Evidence Interpretation

Develop effective roadside interview techniques and learn to spot, document, and interpret critical interior contact evidence.

Calculating Delta-V, PDOF, and Linear Momentum

Gain confidence using real crash data to perform motion analysis that directly supports occupant kinematics findings.

Hands-On Projects & Case-Based Applications

Apply your skills through guided math, video, and virtual inspection projects that simulate real-world investigations — including the 3-Car Challenge.

🚔 Built to Not Suck. Seriously.

No talking-head avatars. No AI-generated robot voiceovers. No lame video script. This training was built by actual instructors who’ve worked real scenes, not failed marketing interns. Every lesson is broken into short, focused videos you can actually finish before your next callout. And yes—most course add up to 15+ hours of legit, actionable content. Mix in real life case files and projects to make you think, not just take up time, and you're on your way to traffic guru.

🌐 Access It Anywhere—Even the Squad Car

In the station. On your phone. Between calls. This training works where you work. If you’ve got an internet connection, you’ve got access—no log-in times, no Zoom meetings, no BS. Whether you’re watching from a laptop, a tablet, or the MDT in your cruiser, you’re in control of your pace and your progress.

🧠 Not Your Grandpa’s Training Course

We ditched the dry lecture format and built something better. From 3D models to augmented reality tools and first-person views, our lessons use creative tech to lock it in. Projects just to take up space and time? Not here, if it's not from a real crash or test, it's not here. This isn’t just training—it’s a crash course in learning the smart way. Built for how you think. Designed to keep you moving.

Syllabus

Module 1
Intro to Occupant Kinematics

Start here and get oriented. We’ll cover course structure, expectations, and introduce you to the case file that’ll be your running partner throughout the training. This isn’t theory — it’s all tied to a real-world crash.

Module 2
Basic Human Anatomy

Don’t worry, we’re not turning you into a paramedic. This module breaks down the human body from an investigator’s point of view — what matters in a crash, how it moves, and what you should be paying attention to in the medical records.

Module 3
Medical Records & Reports

Autopsy reports. Injury scales. Medical shorthand that looks like it came from NASA. We’ll demystify it all — and give you the confidence to read reports like a pro and pull exactly what you need from them for your recon.

Module 4
Injury Investigation & Documentation

Here’s where we turn bruises and breaks into evidence. You’ll learn the differences between blunt force and impact-specific injuries, and how to match injuries to vehicle damage like you’re solving a puzzle.

Module 5
Occupant Movement

This is where the magic happens. You’ll master how people move inside vehicles during frontals, sides, rears — even how a center of mass plays into it. You’ll wrap with a guided practice project that brings it all together.

Module 6
Occupant Restraint Systems & Analysis

Seatbelts don’t lie. You’ll learn how to spot restraint usage (or lack of it), identify restraint-based injuries, and even do the math to prove it. Yes, we said math. But don’t panic — we walk you through it step by step.

Module 7
Rollover Crash Investigation

Rollovers are chaotic. We break them down into patterns and numbers. You’ll learn how to investigate them, calculate speeds, and connect the dots from rollover physics to occupant ejection risks.

Module 8
Interior Inspection & Evidence Collection

We’re getting hands-on. This module teaches you how to look inside a vehicle and read it like a crime scene — where to look, what to document, and how to photograph the right things that matter in court.

Module 9
Roadside Crash Interview Techniques

Not everyone tells the truth. You’ll get proven techniques to detect deception, read behavior, and conduct roadside interviews that actually produce usable intel — all while tying it back to physical evidence.

Module 10
COLM, PDOF, and Delta-V

This is where we wrap it all up with the math that matters. You'll learn how to apply conservation of linear momentum, calculate Delta-V, and determine principal direction of force — and more importantly, how to use it to support occupant position determinations.

BEYOND Module 10
Practice Tests, Scenario Projects and More

By now, you’ve built a serious foundation. You’ve studied human anatomy, restraint systems, crash dynamics, and the movement of real people in real crashes. Now it’s time to take off the training wheels and start solving problems like an expert.

Your instructor

BJ Mullinax

Bobby J. Mullinax is a former police officer and longtime crash reconstruction instructor who’s spent nearly the last two decades helping other investigators sharpen their craft. With 15 years in law enforcement and over 7,000 hours of instructional time, he’s taught agencies across the country how to turn chaos into clarity at the scene of a crash. He’s also the creator behind multiple training programs and tools built specifically for working reconstructionists — cutting through the clutter with real-world workflows, intuitive software, and plain-English instruction that actually sticks.

What students are saying

Very thorough and easy to understand
Jason C.
MICHIGAN
"This course helped me have a better understanding of the PDOF and how it relates to occupant movement in a vehicle. Great information and I could use the material right away in my work."
Raul G.
TEXAS
If you haven't had an opportunity to sit through one of Bobby's classes you're missing out. He does a phenomenal job of blending knowledge and experience and explains it in a way its easily understood. As all the classes I've attended taught by Bobby, Occupant Kinematics was well explained and had real-world examples given to help associate the material.
Thomas M.
SOUTH CAROLINA
This course helped me to understand evidence I have seen but never understood, and to find new evidence that can help put occupants back in their seats.
Phillip B.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Beneficial course for officers getting into a crash department
